For cream colored bedding: the problem is color shift. Cream sits right on the edge of perceptible. It's light enough that tiny dye lot variations show up, but not white enough that optical brighteners can hide them. Industry standard color tolerance is Delta E < 2 for brand-critical colors—Delta E of 2 to 4 is noticeable to trained observers, above 4 is visible to most people (reference: Pantone Color Matching System guidelines).
